Popular Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji has announced the launch of her eponymous social networking platform, Linda Ikeji Social (LIS) today. For about a month, the Linda Ikeji site had a leaderboard reading “Something Big is coming. LIS is launching on 1st of Nov 2016”. The conspicuous ad left a lot of her blog readers speculating as to what LIS means, some even suggesting the acronym stood for “Linda Ikeji Show”.
Many would remember that in August this year, Linda announced the creation of four new brands – Linda Ikeji TV, Linda Ikeji Radio, Linda Ikeji Music and “LIS”. The only mysterious brand of the four, LIS, has finally been revealed today.
This is how Linda introduces her new “baby” –
“Linda Ikeji Social is basically Facebook meets Linda Ikeji Blog meets ebay.com! You can connect with friends on LIS, chat, get the latest breaking news, sell you eye witness stories to us and get paid. You can also buy and sell your goods and services from authentic buyers and sellers.”
LIS also promises to offer monetary rewards to users who provide unique content. According to Linda…
“Linda Ikeji Social will be a combination of what you are used to on Facebook and still get paid ₦1000 for every unique story – gossip – provided to LIS.”
The Linda Ikeji site has become one of the go-to places for breaking news in Nigeria and beyond, and this move by Linda allows for more user-generated content. Going by what she has explained, the platform would allow for crowd sourced reporting as users get to break uncensored news in real-time. LIS also promises huge economic value as it has an “Advertisement” section for individuals and businesses to place adverts.
The LIS home page bears a huge semblance to its well-known social networking counterpart – Facebook. It allows new users to register on the LIS platform using either email signup or Facebook signup options. Although there have been complaints about failed log in attempts by people who tried signing up, I was able to sign up successfully with my Facebook account.
LIS has some interesting features like News, Activities, Popular Stories, Featured Deals, and Advertisements.
We are excited that Linda is taking the next bold step in expanding her media empire, and as Techpoint reports it,
“With this move, Linda has taken a bold step into the world of social networking. And in maybe in a few years, she may become Nigeria’s own Facebook.
